Celebration event at Walkley Library

The Walkley Library Carnegie Group hold an event to celebrate six months of the facility being run exclusively by volunteers last Friday 15 May.

Those attending the event enjoyed food and drink brought by the volunteers and also took part in a literary quiz, devised by the organisers, Clare Attrill, Mark Crossland and Anne Smurthwaite.

Mark, who is a member of the library’s Publicity team, said: “It’s fantastic that the community has responded to the call for volunteers to help run the library.

“However, we still need more people to volunteer, so that the library can carry on serving the community here in Walkley and beyond.

“If anyone can spare a few hours a week, we’d love to hear from you.”

The library is currently open on Mondays 1 to 6pm, Wednesdays and Fridays 10am to 5.30pm and Saturdays 10am to 1pm. Regular events include:

  • Story Time every Monday from 2 to 3pm, aimed at children aged two to four

  • Two groups for babies

  • Knitting, reading and craft groups

  • Sales of donated books

The library will be heavily involved in the Walkley Festival, taking place between June 22 and July 5.
