Can you help support Walkley Library at upcoming events?
There are a number of local, national and international literary events approaching and we are looking for extra volunteers to help cover some of these since the library events team are quite stretched at present. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know if you can help at all with any of these events.
Readathon - Friday 23rd February 2pm-5pm
The Rainbow Bear by Michael Mopurgo. Supervised reading of this book and others interspersed with themed crafts. We have all the templates for these. Volunteers are needed for reading supervision, crafts and organising the event. Other local libraries are running this between 19th and 23rd. We have invited Frecheville library to join us, since their building is being repaired that week.
Between the Lines Festival - Saturday 24th February 10am-4pm
This event is run by Sheffield Hallam University students and the Sheffield City Council Events team at the Hubs Student Union in the city centre (ex-National Centre for Popular Music). It features local authors reading from their books/poems. The volunteer libraries have been asked to promote the libraries, provide some books to read and repeat some of the Readathon crafts. Volunteers are wanted to give out information and supervise the crafts. It is hoped that other libraries will be present. www.betweenthelinesfestival.com
World Book Day - Thursday 1st March
We are being encouraged to open the library on this day to celebrate this event and attract new customers. The World Book Day website contains several ideas on activities that can be run. Some schools encourage pupils to attend in fancy dress. www.worldbookday.com
